New Mezze’s at Lebanese Bakery
April is symbolic of new beginnings, new seasons and new things, which is why we thought it appropriate to introduce a few new tasty treats to our mezze menu.
Chef Clara has cooked up three new special treats for you to share and enjoy with friends and family: marinated baby aubergines, butternut dip and hummus with caramelised onion and cumin seeds.
Butternut Dip: You either love it or hate it. We use oven roasted butternut and onion mixed with dried chillies, cumin and coriander. We blend it with fresh lemon juice and tahini sauce and add a generous sprinkling of sesame seeds.
Served with: It goes well with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and even braai meat! Break some of our fresh pita pockets and dip or eat with our chili and paprika baked dipping breads as a perfect party snack.
Hummus with Caramelised Onions and Cumin Seeds: Our beloved hummus has been a top seller for a while now, so Chef Clara thought it was time to add a little bit of a twist. We simply add a dollop of caramelised onions (which adds a little sweetness) and sprinkle some cripsed cumin seeds. Like everything Mediterranean, we finish it off with a good drizzle of olive oil.
Served with: It goes well with fresh pita, ka’ak or any bread. It has a lot of beautiful flavours and also pairs well with our za’atar and chilli and paprika baked dipping breads.
Marinated Bay Aubergines: Chef Clara was recently gifted with a box of beautiful baby aubergines and got inspired to make her own special batch. Grilled with fresh garlic, parsley, red chilli and lemon zest and marinated in olive oil and pomegranate molasses.
Served with: Eaten as is, on bread or with a side order of Labneh.
We are also making our delicious Tabbouleh salad on the weekends. This traditional favorite is made with chopped parsley, tomato, spring onion, bulgar wheat, lemon juice and olive oil and retails at R50 for 200g. Pop in and have a taste.
